ABOUT
Corina Haywood was raised in the bohemian communities of Southern California among artists, craftsman and writers who encouraged her innate creativity and unique personal style. Her early education emphasized hands-on learning and experiential education. Corina brings this approach of learning to her work and her classes, inviting her students to explore the materials and find their own design aesthetic. The type of hat making Corina does is called free-form blocking which involves a sculptural approach to creating a hat using simple old-world techniques practiced for centuries. Corina studied at the fashion institute of Technology in New York where she learned the foundation of millinery skills. For the past ten years Corina has been exploring the relationship between art and fashion by creating unique hat designs for individuals, retailers and private label clients.
Corina Haywood’s Modern Millinery are made to order entirely by hand. Corina designs each of her hats with a combination of classic couture millinery techniques, avant garde design concepts and sculptural artistry. The distinctive design elements of Corina’s millinery style are the inverted, sculpted seams of the structured draping construction and her unique blend of vintage and modern styling. The architectural and organic lines that dominate her collections reflect a modern world where natural and urban landscapes merge in unique and surprising ways. Corina Haywood Modern Millinery designs are timeless and completely new at once, the result of the designers desire to breathe new life into the age-old art of Millinery. Corina Haywood’s work in millinery is the fruit of a labor of love; her hats are the little gems that have sprouted from a heartfelt vision, to make beautiful works of art that are a joy to wear.
